Photo & signature — do’s and don’ts

Do this

  • Sit before a plain white background in dark-coloured clothes
  • Keep the light on your face, not behind you, and the camera at eye level
  • Let your head cover at least half the frame, with your face sharp
  • Sign with a black pen in running handwriting on plain white paper
  • Scan at 100 DPI or more, crop tight, and aim for about 40 KB

Avoid this

  • No cap, mask or spectacles for the live photo
  • Never use a photograph of a printed or on-screen photo — it is rejected
  • No block-capital signature
  • Do not reuse a 10-20 KB bank or SSC signature file
  • Do not apply to more than one RRB

Taiyaari checklist — keep these ready

  • Aadhaar updated — name and date of birth matching your Class 10 certificate 100%
  • Signature scan ready: JPG/JPEG, 30-49 KB, at least 140 x 60 px, scanned at 100 DPI or more
  • Your one RRB decided — the chosen RRB cannot be changed later, not even in the correction window
  • SC/ST candidates claiming the free travel pass: caste certificate PDF under 400 KB
  • Correction window in your diary: 28 November to 7 December 2026, ₹250 per change

Signature — set target 40 KB

Compress your signature scan with the target set to 40 KB — safely inside the 30-49 KB band. Below 30 KB is rejected too.

Compress image to a size

SC/ST certificate PDF — under 400 KB

Only for the free travel pass claim: compress the caste certificate PDF with the target set to 300 KB so it stays under 400 KB.

Live photo — no file needed

There is no photo file to prepare for this form. Sit before a plain white background in dark clothes, without cap, mask or spectacles, and let the portal capture your photo live.

Every tool runs inside your browser — nothing is uploaded and no sign-up is needed.

Common mistakes that get forms rejected

  • A name or date-of-birth mismatch between Aadhaar and the Class 10 certificate
  • Choosing the wrong RRB — it stays locked forever; the correction window cannot change it
  • A signature outside the 30-49 KB band — under 30 KB fails just like over 49 KB
  • Trying to upload a photo file — this form takes the photo live; there is no upload

  1. Go to the official portal rrbapply.gov.in and create your one-time account
  2. Choose CEN 08/2026 (Station Master) and your RRB — the chosen RRB cannot be changed later, not even in the correction window
  3. Fill in your personal and education details
