RRB Station Master form: photo and signature size — live photo rules, signature 30-49 KB
Station Master has its own notification this year — CEN 08/2026, separate from RRB NTPC. The detailed notification came out on 26 October 2026, applications run from 27 October to 25 November 2026 (fee till 27 November), and two things trip up applicants. First, the photograph: it is captured live through the camera during the application — there is no photo file to upload. Second, the signature: Railways ask for a JPG between 30 KB and 49 KB, a different band from the 10-20 KB that SSC and bank exams use. People who reuse their bank-exam signature file get rejected on size alone.
The live photo — what to do
Because the photo is captured live, preparation means you, not a file. Sit facing a plain white background, in dark-coloured clothing, with the light on your face, not behind you. No cap, no mask, no spectacles, and keep the camera at eye level so your head covers at least half the frame and your face is sharp. A photograph of a printed or on-screen photo is rejected — the portal wants your live face, captured by webcam or your phone's front camera.
The signature — 30 to 49 KB, running hand
Sign in running handwriting (not block capital letters) with a black pen on plain white paper, and scan or photograph just the signature, cropped tight, at 100 DPI or more. The file must be a JPG or JPEG of at least 140 x 60 pixels and between 30 KB and 49 KB. If your scan is bigger than 49 KB, compress it to a target of about 40 KB — the middle of the band is the safe place to land, because a file that slips under 30 KB is rejected just as firmly as one over the limit. That is the whole trick with Railway forms: not just smaller, but inside the band. SC/ST candidates claiming the free sleeper-class travel pass also upload their caste certificate as a PDF under 400 KB.
Before you press submit
Check four things. One, the signature file size reads between 30 and 49 KB. Two, your name and date of birth in Aadhaar match your Class 10 certificate 100% — the short notice itself warns to get Aadhaar updated before applying if they differ. Three, apply to only one RRB: the board you choose cannot be changed later, not even in the correction window. Four, remember the correction window itself: 28 November to 7 December 2026, ₹250 per change, but account-creation details and the chosen RRB stay locked. Eligibility is graduation in any stream, age 20 to 33 years as on 1 January 2027 (relaxations apply). Everything above is free to prepare in your browser — the files never leave your device.
