Eligibility & fees
- 1,145 permanent Sub-Surveyor posts in the Directorate of Land Records & Surveys, Department of Land & Land Reforms and Refugee Relief & Rehabilitation, West Bengal.
- Madhyamik (10th) plus a 3-year Diploma in Survey Engineering — OR Madhyamik plus a 2-year ITI Surveyor certificate course with 1 year's experience in Survey & Settlement work, as the notice describes.
- Age: 21–45 years as on 1 January 2024 (SC/ST of West Bengal +5 years, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) of West Bengal +3 years, PwBD (40%+) up to 45 years). Age is taken only from the Madhyamik/equivalent certificate.
- You must be able to read, write and speak Bengali — this is not compulsory if your mother tongue is Nepali, unless specified.
- Selection: a written examination — Paper-I (Bengali/Nepali, 50 marks, qualifying only; 30% needed) and Paper-II (200 MCQ — English 50, Elementary Mathematics 50, Survey Engineering 100; −0.25 per wrong answer). Final merit is on Paper-II marks alone. Pay: Level-7, ₹24,700–63,900.
- Application fee: ₹110 plus service charges, online only.
- SC/ST candidates of West Bengal and PwBD (40%+) pay no fee. OBC candidates pay the full fee, and SC/ST of other states get no exemption. The fee is never refunded — and it must be paid by 9 November 2026, 3:00 PM.
Photo & signature — what the form asks
- Photograph: the advertisement prints no fixed file size or dimensions for the upload — the online form at psc.wb.gov.in shows the accepted requirement at the upload step. Keep a recent passport-size photograph ready.
- Signature: no size is printed in the advertisement either — keep a clear signature scan on white paper ready, and set the target to whatever the form shows when you upload.
- Quote one photo identity proof in the form — Madhyamik certificate bearing a photograph, Passport, PAN, EPIC, Driving Licence or Aadhaar — and bring the same one in original to the exam venue.
Photo & signature — do’s and don’ts
Do this
- Submit well before 3:00 PM on 9 November — this window closes in the afternoon, not at midnight
- Read the size the upload step shows and set exactly that target in the tools here
- Use the one-time edit window (11-16 November) only after re-checking the whole form — it can be availed only once
- Keep ready the same photo ID that you quote in the form — the original is checked at the exam venue
Avoid this
- Do not plan to apply on the evening of 9 November — applications and the fee both close at 3:00 PM
- Do not spend the single edit chance before checking every field of the submitted form
- Do not quote one photo ID in the form and carry a different one to the exam
- SC/ST candidates from outside West Bengal should not assume the fee exemption — it covers West Bengal SC/ST only
Taiyaari checklist — keep these ready

- One photo ID proof — the same one you will carry to the exam

- Trying to change caste/category claims later — on those, the submitted application is treated as final
- Spending the single edit window without first re-checking the entire form
- Forgetting that an address change must first be made in the Profile Section, before using the edit window
